Over 80 artists including Sol Le Witt, Ivan Chermayeff and Roz Chast
Art Party is a fund-raiser to support John Kerry for President. It is being organized by a group of artists and grassroots Democrats to advance the cause of regime change in Washington. The location of the Art Party is the "22 Haviland Street Gallery" in South Norwalk, Connecticut. The Art Party consists of several different elements:
- An Art Exhibit On Friday, July 16 from 6 to 9:00 pm and on Saturday, July 17 from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm the gallery will be open to the public, free of charge, to view artwork contributed by over 50 local artists in support of the Kerry campaign.
- A Patron's Party On Saturday, July 17 from 6 to 9:00 pm there will be a Patron's Party at the gallery. Admission to the Patron's Party is a $100 donation to the Kerry campaign. Host committee members who plan to be at the party include Richard Blumenthal (Connecticut Attorney General), Bill Curry (the man who should have been elected governor of CT), Norwalk Mayor Alex Knopp, Ridgefield First Selectman Rudy Marconi, and Westport First Selectwoman Diane Farrell (also candidate for Congress from the 4th Congressional District) and other interesting and entertaining people. Many of the artists will also be there.
If you would like to attend the Patron's Party, send a check payable to John Kerry for President, Inc. along with a completed donation form to:
Art Party Fund Raiser
c/o Paul Sutherland
66 Mimosa Court
Ridgefield, CT 06877
Donations will also be accepted at the door.
- A Silent Auction People who attend either the Exhibit or the Patron's Party may bid on the donated works of art in a silent auction. Final bids will be the highest bids received by 8:30 pm on Saturday evening. We will then announce the winners at the Patron's Party. The winners will pay the respective artists the bid price, and the artist will donate the proceeds to the Kerry campaign.
- Art Sale There will also be some works of art for sale at fixed prices throughout the exhibit and party. These will include small "art cards" for $50 each. The artists have agreed to donate the proceeds of these sales to the Kerry campaign as well.
Note that if a potential donor has already contributed the legal maximum of $2,000 to the Kerry campaign and would still like to attend the Patron's Party, they may do so by writing a check for $100 payable to Kerry Victory 2004, which will then go to an account with the Democratic National Committee.
